Leila Abou-Jaoude
Performer | Writer — NYC
Leila Abou-Jaoude is a performer, writer, and composer based in New York City. She graduated from Princeton University in 2022 with a BA in music and certificates in musical theater, theater, vocal performance, and gender and sexuality studies. At Princeton, she performed in musicals including Godspell (“Day by Day” Track) and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy Park) as well as in several original student works. She also composed her own musical about German Romantic concert pianist Clara Schumann, which she continues to develop. She continued her studies at Boston University, where she graduated with an MM in Vocal Performance in 2024.
Leila is fascinated by all facets of the performing arts. In addition to singing, she plays the violin and piano. She has written about the history of musical theater, analyzed some of opera’s most notable arias, and orchestrated her own pieces. Having witnessed firsthand the immeasurable impact the arts can have on children’s lives, she is a strong advocate for arts education. Her favorite experiences reflect her diverse interests. They include performing in Hair (Marjorie/Crissy US) and Into the Woods (The Baker’s Wife) with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, working as the Education and Engagement Summer Intern at the McCarter Theatre Center, and touring with the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Leila continues to perform, compose, and teach voice and music theory. She believes that the performing arts reflect who we are, who we have been, and who we could be. Ultimately, Leila hopes to use her talents to help us understand our current moment, reckon with our complicated past, and envision a brighter future for all.
